We have a lot of interesting things going on in the coming weeks! We are finishing up Kit Kittredge: An American Girl right now. This WONDERFUL video shows the kids first hand how families like THEIRS suffered during the Great Depression, while also giving insight into the lives of migrant workers, or "hobos." In the next few days, we will have a Hobo Scavenger Hunt around the school as well. We will analyze a series of historical photos -- primary sources from the Depression -- to better understand life of migrant workers as they left the Dust Bowl on the Great Plains.
Please feel free to talk to your kids about any and all of these projects. They have had a lot of fun, and have a lot of fun coming in the next few days!
Edited to add, this is a site we teachers have used as a resource with the kids. Thought you might want to see: http://www.pbs.org/kenburns/dustbowl/photos/
